COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, seniors Ashley Burkhardt and Abbey Somerlott share Most Valuable Player honors for this season’s Coldwater softball team, which had its annual awards banquet this week. Also recognized was sophomore Jessica Becks, who along with Burkhardt, took home the Big Stick Award. Rookie of the Year and Gold Glove awards went to freshman Michaela Gillette. Named Most Spirited was junior Audrey Tappenden and selected Most Improved was senior Kelsey Flynn while senior Kelsey Winn was picked Outstanding Outfielder. This year’s Coldwater softball squad was Academic All-State as a team while individual Academic All-State honors went to Somerlott, Flynn, and fellow senior Elizabeth Long.
The MHSAA softball and baseball state tournament semi-finals and finals are on tap for tomorrow and Saturday at Bailey Park in Battle Creek. Also on the schedule to wrap upMichiganhigh school sports for this year are Saturday’s girl’s soccer state finals and the boy’s golf finals tomorrow and Saturday.
