The Tigers erased a three-run deficit behind a 4-for-5 night from Brennan Boesch to pull out an 8-to-4 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Boesch hit a solo home run, had two RBI’s and scored two runs
Boesch also made a diving catch in right field as the Tigers improved to 8-and-1 in their last 9 games against the Cubs. Jhonny Peralta, who was the goat with two costly errors in the same inning in Detroit’s loss to the Cubs Tuesday night, was a home run away from the cycle last night, going 3-for-4 with two RBI’s and two runs scored.
Rick Porcello improved to 4-and-4, despite struggling through five innings, giving up four runs and nine hits. Justin Verlander gets the start this afternoon for the Tigers as they play the rubber game of the 3-game series with the Cubs.
The victory allowed Detroit to pick up a game on the Central Division leading White Sox, who are 5 games up on the Tigers after losing 1-to-0 last night at St. Louis.
And Giants pitcher Matt Cain has tossed the 22nd perfect game in Major League baseball history. Cain shutdown the Houston Astros 10-to-0 last night in San Francisco, striking out 14 en route to the first perfect game in franchise history.
