The 2011-12 high school sports season in Michigan wraps up today with the MHSAA Baseball and Softball Finals at Battle Creek’s Bailey Park, the Girls Soccer Finals at Williamston and MSU’s Old College Field, and the second day of the Lower Peninsula Boys Golf Finals. Yesterday in the Division 2 Baseball Semifinals, St. Joseph, the team that eliminated Coldwater last weekend in the Regionals was edged by Bay City John Glenn 6-5 in 8 innings. And in the Division 1 Softball Semifinals, defending champ Mattawan from the SMAC West edged White Lake Whiteland 5-4 and will take on Hudsonville this afternoon.
Congratulations to Coldwater baseball coach Randy Spangler, who was named District Coach of the Year along with Gull Lake Coach Bill Blakely. Under Spangler's leadership, the Cardinals won a District title and made it all the way to the Regional Finals this season. Since becoming Coldwater's head coach, Spangler has amassed a career record of 490-361.
