QUINCY, MI (WTVB) - Although only a handful of people attended the Quincy Schools budget hearing last night, over 50 attended the school board’s regular meeting which followed, most were there to offer their support of layed-off teacher and athletic director Brett Allman. The board voted last month to combine the positions of middle and high school assistant principal and that of the athletic director.
Ten people spoke including Jim Strock who not only cited Alman’s coaching ability, but his support of all sports, his fundraising ability and the respect students have for him. He said it would be an injustice to Alman and a loss to the Quincy School system.
Several students referred to Alman as their second dad and told how he positively impacted their lives. After the meeting Quincy Superintendent Craig Artist said that if a physical education teaching position would be available, Alman would be recalled from layoff, but at this time Alman is not a certified administrator and would not be eligible for the combined position. The board last night approved the 2012-2013 budget and it includes the possible recall of four elementary teachers currently on layoff.
