The Tigers got to Ranger’s starter Yu Darvish for two runs in the first inning, but the Japanese right-hander settled down for the next five plus innings and Texas defeated Detroit 7-to-5 last night in Arlington, where the game-time temperature was 103-degrees.
Darvish struck out 10 to improve to 10-and-4. Prince Fielder had a homer and double and four rbi’s for the Tigers, who were limited to 5-hits on the night. Drew Smyly allowed six runs over four-and-two-thirds innings to fall to 2-and-3. Detroit dips to 36-and-38 and slips to 3 games behind the Central Division leading White Sox, who beat the Twins 3-to-2.
Doug Fister starts tonight for the Tigers in the rubber game of the 3-game series against the West Division leading Rangers. Detroit then moves on to Tampa Bay, where they open a 4-game series with the Rays tomorrow night. Last night at Wrigley Field, the Cubs beat the Mets 5-to-3.
