It’s called the hot corner for good reason. Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera suffered a facial cut, possibly from his broken sunglasses, when the bad hop shot handcuffed him in the bottom of the first in Detroit’s Grapefruit League game in Clearwater against the Phillies.
He left the game with a towel covering the bloodied right side of his face and was taken to a hospital for stitches and precautionary x-rays. Cabrera appeared to have escaped serious injury but there’s been no follow up report yet from the Tigers on his condition.
Detroit went on to lose the game to Philadelphia 4-to-3. It was just the second spring training defeat for the Tigers in 17 games with three ties.
