Austin Jackson went 4-for-5 with two RBI’s and Jhonny Peralta added a pair of run-scoring singles for Detroit, which won for just the third time in 11 games. The Tigers and Royals will wrap up the rain shortened two game series this afternoon with Justin Verlander getting the start for Detroit.
Tiger’s outfielder Andy Dirks is day-to-day after leaving last night's win over the Royals in the fourth inning with tightness in his left hamstring. He first strained the hamstring a couple of weeks ago and was kept out of the lineup for several games. Dirks and Don Kelly have been playing left field while Delmon Young serves his 7-day suspension.
Young is eligible to return Friday when the Tigers host the White Sox. Manager Jim Leyland has said Young won’t be in the starting lineup and probably won’t but could play in the first game of the series against Chicago.
Last night, the White Sox beat the Indians 7-to-2 while the Cubs game at Cincinnati was rained out.
