Isabella County pastor charged with murder of neighbor

by

DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO) -- Members of a small mid-Michigan church congregation met yesterday, but their Pastor was a no-show. About 20 members of Christ Community Fellowship in Isabella County's Deerfield Township attended Sunday services, they are in shock after 55-year-old Pastor John D. White was arraigned on charges of beating and strangling a neighbor to fulfill a sexual fantasy. He is charged with first-degree murder and is jailed without bond.  The ex-convict told police that after killing 24-year-old Rebekah Gay in her trailer in rural Isabella County Wednesday, he hid her body in nearby woods and then returned to the trailer to dress her 3-year-old son for Halloween. White told investigators he struck Gay's head with a mallet and then strangled her, stripped her but does not remember if he carried out his fantasy of having sex with her dead body.

White was released from prison in 2007 after serving nearly 12 years for manslaughter in Kalamazoo County.  In the early 1980s he was also sentenced to five years for choking and stabbing a 17-year-old Battle Creek girl.  White said he was engaged to Gay's mother, who was a regular at his Sunday sermons.
