COLDWATER (WTVB) - A Lansing couple is being held for allegedly pulling off one of the longest and most expensive series of burglaries in the region’s history. State Police believe they may have robbed as many as 100 to 150 homes in an 8 county area of mid Michigan, including Branch, Barry, Calhoun and Hillsdale Counties. They traveled the country looking for an isolated home with a for sale sign. They would knock on the front door, prepared with a cover story if anyone answered. If they didn’t, they would kick in the door and take jewelry, electronic appliances, and other compact items of wealth that could be converted into cash at a pawn shop.
55-year-old Glendora Beard has been charged with one count of home invasion. The other suspect has not yet been formally charged. Police seized stolen property valued at over $100,000 from a motel room in Albion, where the couple had stashed the items.
