International observers booted from Michigan polling sites

LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has successfully blocked international observers from polling locations around the state Tuesday.  They had been green-lighted by Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, and they had been allowed in the past by former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land.

Gongwer News Service reports Europe's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights was informed by Schuette that state law banned them as non-citizens from taking part in Michigan elections.  While Johnson disagrees, a spokesperson for the European office says they will stay away from polling locations in this state.
