BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO) --   A helpless Battle Creek woman watched as her 8-year-old daughter was hit by a car, by a driver who claimed to be equally helpless to avoid striking the girl.  The 3^rd grader was admitted to Bronson Methodist in Kalamazoo in critical condition on Tuesday.   Battle Creek Police say the girl and her mother were walking across Columbia Avenue during afternoon traffic.   The mom stopped in the middle lane to let crossing traffic go through but the girl continued walking and stepped out in front of a car. The name of the victim has not been released.
