ANGOLA. IN (WTVB) - A Monday afternoon house fire has taken the life of an elderly Angola, Indiana man.  Eighty-year old Herbert Sanders died in the blaze that broke out shortly after 3 p.m. at his north side residence onGrowth Parkway.

The first arriving police officers were told someone was trapped inside and they found heavy flames on the first floor with the heat and smoke preventing any immediate rescue attempts. When firefighters got there, they made entry and removed the victim from the structure.

Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene. The fire was confined to the living room and kitchen area of the home. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
