WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO) -- West Michigan Congressman Fred Upton will get back to work in the national spotlight, chairing a committee hearing on the Fungal Meningitis outbreak, caused by contaminated needles.
He has invited FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg and he has subpoenaed Barry Cadden, one of the co-founders of the New England Compounding Lab where the contamination occurred. Cadden who is being investigated by a number of agencies is expected to plead the fifth to avoid incriminating himself. The hearings get underway at 10 this morning. Michigan has been one of the states hardest hit by the meningitis contamination with 8 dead and 128 made ill by the contaminated steroid needles.
