BRONSON, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, the volleyball season has ended for county teams but several area schools including Concord, which eliminated Bronson in the regional semi-finals, advanced last night with wins to reach the MHSAA Final Four. Concord swept by Schoolcraft 3-to-0 at the Delton-Kellogg Class-C quarterfinal and the third-ranked Yellowjackets will now face top-ranked Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central in the semi finals tomorrow afternoon at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
In Class-D, six-time defending champion top-ranked Battle Creek St. Philip moved on with a victory last night and the Tigers will take on 5th-ranked Onaway in Friday’s semi-finals. Also in Class-D, St. Joe Valley champion Mendon punched its ticket to the Final Four and the 2nd-ranked Hornets will battle third-ranked Beal City on Friday.
And in Class-A, with the two top-ranked teams before the tournament started, Gull Lake and Clarkston, both ousted in the regionals, the highest ranked schools still in the post season are third ranked Macomb Dakota and number-8 Grand Haven. In the quarterfinals last night, Grand Haven stayed alive by beating Grand Rapids Christian, the school that took out Gull Lake in the regionals. The volleyball season ends on Saturday with the four championship matches at Kellogg Arena.
