Reigning American League Cy Young Award right hander Justin Verlander of Detroit was edged out for the honor this year by Tampa Bay’s David Price by a mere four points in the closest vote in A-L history except for 1969, when Baltimore's Mike Cuellar and the Tigers' Denny McClain shared the award after tying in the balloting. New York Mets journeyman knuckleball specialist R.A. Dickey was named the National League's Cy Young Award winner by the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Detroit third baseman Miguel Cabrera is considered to be the favorite for American League Most Valuable Player honors when the MVP awards for both leagues are announced tonight.
Meanwhile, it looks like Torii Hunter is the newest Tiger. According to multiple reports, the free-agent outfielder has agreed to a two-year, 26-million-dollar contract. The deal is pending a physical exam. The 37-year-old Hunter hit .313 with 16 home runs and 92 RBI’s with the Angels this past season.
