MHSAA Volleyball Finals, Football Semifinals On Tap Today

BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) - It’s a big Saturday on the high school sports scene, with the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Volleyball Finals at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek and the MHSAA Football Playoffs reaching the semifinal round.

Last night in the volleyball semifinals, six-time defending Class D champion Battle Creek St. Philip punched a ticket to this morning’s championship match by beating Onaway 3-0. The Fighting Tigers will take on Beal City, who took out St. Joe Valley champion Mendon 3-0. The Class A semis saw Temperance Bedford defeat Grand Haven 3-1, while Macomb Dakota beat Northville 3-0.

Today’s championship matches:

Class D: Battle Creek St. Philip vs. Beal City, 10am

Class C: Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central vs.Traverse City St. Francis, 12pm

Class A: Temperance Bedford vs. Macomb Dakota, 2pm

Class B: North Branch vs. Lake Odessa Lakewood, 4pm

 

In the state football semifinals, in games of area interest:

Division 3: Harper Creek vs. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, 1pm at Chelsea

Division 6: Constantine vs. Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central, 1pm at Harper Creek

Battle Creek Central’s C.W. Post Field will host a Division 1 semifinal game between Rockford and Detroit Catholic Central. Ford Field in Detroit will host the Football Finals next Friday and Saturday.

Last night in the 8-Player Football Final at Greenville, Deckerville beat Bellaire 14-12.
