WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO) -- Sunday, an Israeli airstrike killed nine women and children, all members of the same family in the worst civilian tragedy since the fighting in the Gaza Strip began last week.
Michigan Senator Carl Levin told ABC’s “This Week” that the escalating violence has the potential to become a ground war.
Levin, Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee says Israel has the superior technology, because of their “iron Dome” anti-missile defense system.
Levin says diplomatic efforts are underway thru other Arab leaders, particularly Egypt, to get Hamas to stand down, but he isn’t at all sure it will work.
As an effort to bring the two groups closer together was staged this weekend in Dearborn Heights. A group of young professional Jewish and Muslim men met at a recreation center in the Detroit Suburb for a Basketball game that was scheduled long before missiles started flying over the border.
Yosuf Begg of the Michigan Muslim Community Council says cancelling would have only played into the hands of those who preach hate.
They had hoped that about 40 would show up but only about half that many did. No word on what the score was.
