COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, less than a week to go now before county teams open their winter schedules with the first contests happening in girl’s basketball next Tuesday with a pair of home games as Bronson hosts Homer and Quincy takes on Hillsdale.

Our first broadcast of the season on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 is set for a week from tonight as Union City tips off its girl’s basketball season at home against Bronson.

The MHSAA Fall season events wrap up this weekend in Detroit with state championship football playoff action at Ford Field with four games today and four more tomorrow. The only area school still in the title hunt is Constantine in Division Six as the Falcons face off against Ithaca at 4:30 this afternoon.

In boy’s soccer, Coldwater and Quincy are well-represented on the Battle Creek Enquirer’s All-Area team, which was announced yesterday. Selected from Coldwater were the three Aljabaly brothers, Yousif, Mohamed, and Nooh along with Ian Wright. Honorable mention for the Cardinals were Zakria Haggagi and Tommy Nagle. Making the All-Area team from Quincy were Nick Haberl, Dakota Finley and Ashton Diotte while honorable mention were Jake Rider and Igor Batista. And the Enquirer named Coldwater’s Ken Delaney its 2012 All-Area Boy’s Soccer Coach of the Year.
