UNDATED (WTVB) In Branch County high school sports, the student-athletes have the gyms to themselves for a few more days and then the stands will begin to fill up once again with fans to cheer on their favorite teams competing in the games of the winter season beginning next week with girl’s basketball to be followed next month with boy’s hoops and wrestling as well as gymnastics. The curtain on the fall season of events in Michigan is coming down this weekend at Ford Field in Detroit with the eight MHSAA football playoff title games. The only area team with a shot at a championship, Constantine, had their season end with a loss on Friday as the Falcons fell to Ithaca 37-to-27 in the Division Six title game. It was the Yellowjacket’s third straight championship, capping three 14-and-0 seasons in-a-row, including a victory over Constantine in the 2011 title contest. Also crowned champions on Friday were Birmingham Brother Rice in Division Two, Grand Rapids South Christian in Division Four, and Harbor Beach in Division Eight. On today’s schedule are four more games to decide the titles in Divisions One, Three, Five and Seven.
