Bronson, MI (WTVB) - Branch County authorities say a woman on her way home from last night’s Carrie Underwood concert at the Palace escaped with minor injuries when her car struck a cow early today in Bethel Township.
The collision happened shortly before 2 a.m. on Central Road just east of Gilead Lake Road. 23-year old Maria Herman, who was alone in the vehicle, was trapped for a short time in her 2005 Pontiac Aztec. The Bronson Fire department was called to the scene, but Herman was out of the car when firemen arrived.
The Sherwood woman was treated by Life Care Ambulance medics but wasn’t taken to the hospital. The cow was killed in the crash. Herman told deputies her dad always said if you’re driving and come across an animal in the roadway, don’t attempt to swerve, it’s safer just to run into it rather than take a chance of losing control and leaving the road. That’s what Maria did last night and it may have prevented more serious injuries since there are a number of trees lining that portion of Central Road.
