Michigan Coach Brady Hoke said Monday that the school has applied for a medical redshirt for junior quarterback Devin Gardner and Hoke is confident the Big Ten will grant the request. Gardner missed all but 3 games in his freshman season when he took just a handful of snaps while dealing with a back injury. Gardner was a starter at quarterback for 3 games this season for the Wolverines and played the position for a majority of Michigan’s loss Saturday at Ohio State. He played the first eight games this year at wide receiver.
