COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - The City of Coldwater has announced new street parking plans designed to improve safety at parades and downtown events. The new plans take effect with this weekend’s Coldwater Christmas Parade at 10 o’clock Saturday morning. The parking spaces on Chicago Street, both north and south sides, between Division and Clay will be blocked with traffic cones approximately two hours prior to the start of each event. The cones are designed to block vehicles from parking in the area prior to and during the parade or event. If you find that the cones have been placed and your car is still in a parking spot, the city asks that you please use caution when entering traffic. Officials also say parking for the parade or event is readily available in all the city parking lots in the downtown area, side streets, and areas not identified with traffic cones. Coldwater Director of Public Safety Mark Bartell says it’s their hope that this will create a safer environment for younger spectators and a better view for older spectators. Bartell encourages citizens to be part of the fun at the parades and events and to do so with safety in mind.
