UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, the first week of the girl’s hoops schedule resumes tonight after a couple of days off and includes our first basketball broadcast of the season and it’s a cross county matchup as Union City hosts Bronson. Our live coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 from McNett Fieldhouse gets underway at seven o’clock.

It’s Union City’s season opener while Bronson tipped off its schedule with a loss at home against Homer on Tuesday.

Coldwater’s varsity girl’s and boy’s basketball season starts next Tuesday against Battle Creek Central. The Coldwater girl’s freshman team opens play this afternoon at 4:30 on the road against Kalamazoo Hackett.


Today on the Coach’s Corner, we’ll get a preview of Coldwater boy’s basketball with Coach Brien Kelly.


In middle school sports yesterday, in boy’s basketball, the Coldwater eighth grade “A” team was a winner at Marshal 47-to-23 with 12 points for Collin Warner while Nick Aker added 6 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Marshall won the “B” game 14-to-13. Caleb Letendre and Connor Covert had 3 points apiece for Coldwater while Collin Klein had 4 rebounds. 

In the seventh grade action at Coldwater, it was Marshall winning the “B” game 15-to-13. Ethan Hurst had 6 points for the Cardinals.

Also yesterday, the Bronson eighth grade team lost at home to Centreville 56-to-39. Carlos Reyes led Bronson with 11 points. Thad Herman added 10 points and Justin Robinson had a team-high 15 rebounds along with 6 points. The Viking’s seventh grade team also lost to the visiting Bulldogs 40-to-28. Dakota Schlautmann led Bronson with 7 points and the team had a season-high 28 rebounds.
