D.C. (WKZO) -- Senator Debbie Stabenow is planning an afternoon news conference to announce that a major grant is headed toward Michigan.
They will announce that the Argonne Labs in Chicago has won a 120-million dollar grant to build two new advanced battery research facilities to Michigan. One would be placed in Holland, where several major battery producers have set up shop. The other would be placed on the University campus in Ann Arbor, where a lot of research takes place.
The goal of the Department of Energy effort will be to find more uses for advanced battery systems, and to improve the batteries themselves. . The bankruptcy of A123, and stories that other advanced battery makers have yet to actually produce any batteries may have some wondering why.
