LANSING (WTVB) - A preliminary injunction was issued late Friday afternoon preventing Secretary of State Ruth Johnson from mandating the inclusion of a citizenship question on the November ballot. Federal Judge Paul Borman promised to issue a written opinion by Tuesday, while telling the MIRS News Service that the citizenship question was “...just not inviting, it’s creating chaos.” Johnson asked county and munipal clerks to put the citizenship question to voters, stating that it was intended to reduce voter fraud. Opponents claim that she has no authority to ask the question and that it would create voter confusion.
