Don Kelly's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Tigers over the A’s 5-to-4 yesterday afternoon, giving Detroit a 2-to-0 lead in their best of 5 American League Division Series. The action now shifts from Detroit to Oakland for Game Three tomorrow night and games four and five, if necessary, on Wednesday and Thursday. Yesterday in the ninth inning for Detroit, Omar Infante singled to right, Miguel Cabrera singled to center and Prince Fielder was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out. Kelly followed with a fly ball to right and Infante tagged up to score the winning run. Tiger’s starter Doug Fister allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings. Al Alburquerque recorded the final out in the ninth with runners on first and third to pick up the win.
Anibal Sanchez goes to the mound for the Tigers tomorrow night in Game Three, which is scheduled to start at 9:07 Eastern Time and be televised on TBS.
Elsewhere in Divisional Playoff action, in Game One, the New York Yankees last night beat Baltimore 7-to-2 while in another Game One, the Washington Nationals edged Louis 3-to-2, and Cincinnati now leads the Giants 2-games-to-0 after the Reds blanked San Francisco 9-to-0.
