Kenseth Avoids Last Lap Crash To Win At Talladega

by

Matt Kenseth survived a massive crash on the last turn of the final lap at Talladega Superspeedway to win Sunday's Good Sam's Roadside Assistance 500 in the fourth race in the ten event Championship Chase. At least 20 drivers, including several title contenders, were involved in the big crash heading into turn four. Chase driver Tony Stewart was leading on the last lap but spun around when he made contact with Michael Waltrip, triggering the pileup. Stewart's car went airborne and then landed on top of Kasey Kahne's car. There were no injuries during the incident. Kenseth, who is in the Chase field, moved into the lead just before the yellow flag was displayed for the crash, ending the race under caution. Stewart had taken over the lead just after a restart for a green-white-checkered finish. Jamie McMurray crashed in the closing laps to setup the two-lap overtime finish. Jeff Gordon finished second, while Kyle Busch rebounded from a pit-road speeding penalty early in the race to take the third spot. Next on the schedule is Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
