UNDATED (WTVB) - Get skilled…Get work. Skilled workers are in high demand right now, and there may be a critical shortage of them in a few years. The Society of Manufacturing Engineers says there may be as many as three-million skilled factory vacancies by 2015. The group blames the shortage on a sharp increase in four-year college enrollment for white collar careers, as well as parents influencing their kids away from manufacturing jobs. Welders, for example, are in high demand across many fields, from highway construction to natural gas production. They make, on average, about 48-thousand dollars per year.
