ALBION (WTVB) - An Albion man is clinging to life after he was hit by a freight train and airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. A surveillance video apparently shows that 23-year-old Ervin Hunter was trying to beat the freight train to the crossing at Superior and Lake Michigan Avenue on his bike at about 10 am Wednesday morning, and just didn’t make it. They say he was wearing ear-buds at the time. Accident reconstructionists say the lights and bells were all functioning. It appears he was dragged for 100 yards and run over by the engines and over half a dozen cars on the Norfolk and Southern train before it was able to come to a stop. He has reportedly lost an arm and some toes, and they are trying to save other limbs. He remains in critical condition at Bronson.
