CASSOPOLIS, MICHIGAN (WTVB) - A woman from Southwest Michigan has become the 4th victim from this state to die in that fungal meningitis outbreak. 89-year-old Pauline Burema of Cassopolis apparently received two shots for backpain, from the contaminated batches at the OSMC Outpatient Surgery Center in Elkhart, Indiana.
Family members say Burema had been healthy and active, and was planning a trip to New Mexico when the disease struck and killed her in just a few days. Nationally she is the 14th to die. 170 are now ill from the infection.
