Baldwin Escapees could face charges in four states

BALDWIN (WKZO) -- Police say it appears the two escapees, Kenneth Grauman and Gregory Bradshaw escaped from a northern Michigan detention facility by finding a flaw in the fencing that surrounded the place. Sheriff Robert Hilts says they have since corrected the flaw and inspected the rest of the fence.

It resulted in a two week cross country man hunt and drug binge that was apparently fueled by methamphetamines and made possible by a series of home invasions and car thefts. They got approximately 14-hundred miles away from West Michigan before their capture at a Colorado hotel, but it was not far enough for the long arm of the law. .

They felt so secure, they left their room without the one gun they still had in their possession and were completely shocked when a SWAT team arrested them just out side their room.

Police Chief Paul Schultz knew all about them and had a double perimeter set up around the motel, they weren’t getting away this time.

Their two girlfriends were taken into custody as they returned to the motel in a Nissan Altima the foursome allegedly stole in southern Iowa.

They found 23-hundred dollars, a .357 revolver and a working meth lab in their motel room. Allegan County Lt. Scott Mattice says they could face charges in 4 states and it may take a while to sort out extradition and the pecking order of who will get to prosecute them first.

It seems much of their future will be spent in the one place they were trying so hard to avoid, a prison cell.
