Howell man does not have meningitis

by

HOWELL (WKZO) -- A Howell man whose wife recently died from meningitis does not have the disease.  Tests show that 65-year-old George Cary does not have a strand of fungal meningitis that has been linked to deaths across the country.

Cary and his wife Lilian had received steroid injections for pain in August from the Michigan Pain Specialists clinic in Brighton.  A few weeks later Lilian fell ill and passed away on September 30th.

The tainted injections were issued to four clinics in Michigan.  As of Tuesday, statewide there were 47-reported cases of fungal meningitis linked to the steroid and three-deaths.
