BETHEL TOWNSHIP, BRANCH CO, MI (WTVB) - Branch County authorities believe they know the identity of a 20-year old man who died Wednesday afternoon in a fiery crash in Bethel Township. However, they’re waiting for autopsy results and dental records for a positive I-D before a name is released.
The victim’s car burst into flames after smashing into a tree along Kosmerick Road near Brooks Road.
The first deputy on scene had been responding to an unrelated complaint when he came upon the scene and found the vehicle heavily damaged and on fire. He attempted to remove the driver but the doors were pinned shut from the impact and also tried to extinguish the blaze without success.
Bronson firemen arrived to find the vehicle engulfed in flames and used the Jaws of Life to open the door once the fire was put out. The driver was alone in the car and the accident, which happened around 3:45 p.m., remains under investigation.
