EMMITT TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) - For the second time in as many days a local police officer has been hurt in a traffic crash. An Emmett Township Public Safety squad car was responding to an emergency call about 7AM yesterday at Wattles Road and E. Michigan when his cruiser collided with a red pickup truck. The unnamed officer was transported to Bronson Methodist in Kalamazoo for emergency treatment of what turned out to be nonlife threatening injuries. He is reported to be in good condition. The other driver wasn’t hurt.
State Police have agreed to investigate the crash. The day before, a state trooper suffered a mild case of whiplash when his parked cruiser was rear ended by a motorist who failed to slow at the scene of an earlier wreck on U.S. 131 near Wayland.
Meanwhile, a Pick-up truck driver was killed when he blew through a stop light in Allegan County and was crushed by a Semi-truck that had the right of way. It happened at about 7 Thursday morning at the intersection of 142nd and Kalamazoo Avenue near Dorr. The impact tossed the pick-up like a toy into a nearby yard. The driver was extricated and rushed to the hospital where he was dead on arrival. Both drivers were from the Wayland Area. They are trying to contact family before releasing his name.
