The Detroit Tigers continue to play the waiting game as they get ready to travel to either San Francisco or St. Louis to start the World Series on Wednesday.Detroitis in the middle of a 5-day layoff after clinching the American League pennant last Thursday with their 4-game sweep of the Yankees.
The National League Championship Series will be decided tonight with a winner take all Game 7 in San Francisco, where last night the Giants jumped on the Cardinals, taking Game 6 by a score of 6-to-1 to even up the series at 3-3. The last time Detroit played in the Fall Classic in 2006 when they lost in 5 games to the Cardinals, the Tigers had an extended layoff and just held several workouts. Jim Leyland, manager six years ago, decided with club officials to go with a different plan this time around, with a workout Saturday and then yesterday, a simulated game at Comerica Park with a team of Detroit instructional league prospects providing the opposition They’ve scheduled another 5-inning scrimmage game for noon today before eventually flying out for Wednesday night’s Game One. All of the workouts have been closed to the public.
