High School Sports


COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports last night, in volleyball, Coldwater won 3-to-0 in a non-conference match at Tecumseh. BreeAnn Spangler led the way with 13 kills and 22 digs while Lauren Outwater had a team-high 6 blocks and Janie Marso had 24 assists. Coldwater, which will play Saturday in the SMAC League tournament hosted by Battle Creek Central, improved its record to 40-6-and-1. Tecumseh took both of last night’s reserve matches, winning the j-v match 2-to-1 and the freshman match 2-to-0. Mina Wellet led the Coldwater j-v team in kills with 8 while Carlee Smoker had 12 assists and 3 aces and Michaela Gillette had ten digs.

The j-v team finished its season with a 34-12-and-1 record. In the freshman action, Gaby Milnes had 7 kills while Kendall Galloway and Stacy Guzy each had 7 assists. The final freshman record was 24-10-and-4.

Also last night in volleyball, in a quad meet at Bronson, the host Lady Vikings defeated Sturgis in five games and lost 3-to-0 to New Buffalo. Kylei Ratkowski had 22 kills, Grace Pyles had 27 digs, Skyler Sobeski had 20 blocks and 6 aces and Alexa Ratkowski had 55 assists. Bronson’s record is now 30-17-and-6 and they play Saturday in the St. Joe Valley Tournament at Centreville.

Next week, the second season starts with state tournament district play beginning on Monday.

Finally in volleyball yesterday, in a j-v match, Union City won 2-to-0 at Reading. Bailee White and Katie Wood had 4 kills apiece while White also had 6 aces and 6 assists.
