BRONSON (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, the state football playoffs start this weekend with Bronson and Union Citythe two county teams that qualified for MHSAA post season play with both teams in action tonight on the road. Bronson takes a 5-and-3 record to Hillsdale for its Division Six pre-district contest against the undefeated Hornets. We’ll have live coverage of the game on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 with our broadcast beginning at 6:30 with the kickoff at seven o’clock. You can also catch the play-by-play from Sean Watson and Al Rakocy streaming on-line at wtvbam.com. Meanwhile, in Division Seven, it’s Union City at Pewamo-Westphalia in a matchup of teams both with 6-and-3 records. We’ll have updates on theUnion Citygame during our broadcast from Hillsdale. The winners advance to next weekend’s district title games with the survivors continuing on the road to Ford Field in Detroit where 8 championships will be decided on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.
In cross country, the second season is here with regional meets today and tomorrow across the state with all of the Branch County schools scheduled to compete on Saturday at Jackson’s SharpParkwith runners from Coldwater in Division Two while it’s Division Three for Quincy, Bronson and Union City. The top three teams at each regional as well as the top 15 individual runners will advance to the state finals on November 3rd at Michigan International Speedway.
And it’s a busy weekend coming up in volleyball with league championships on the line tomorrow in advance of the state tournament which begins with district play on Monday. Coldwater on Saturday will be in the SMAC League meet hosted by Battle Creek Central. The Big Eight tournament, including Quincyand Union City, is at Jonesville while Bronson will be at Centreville for the St. Joe Valley Championship meet.
