The Tigers were trimmed by the White Sox 5-to-4 yesterday afternoon in a makeup game in Chicago with the loss putting Detroit 3 games behind the Central Division leading White Sox with 16 games to play. Omar Infante's fifth-inning throwing error on a potential double play relay let Chicago score the tying and go-ahead runs with Alex Rios taking out Infante with a hard slide leading to the errant throw.
Delmon Young had two hits and drove in three for the Tigers, who blew 3-to-0 and 4-to-3 leads. Detroit tonight hosts the Oakland A’s to begin a 3-game series which is part of a 10-game home stand, the final one of the season at Comerica Park. The White Sox, meanwhile, hit the road for 3 games at Kansas City and then 3-games against the Angles in Anaheim.
And the Cubs lost the Pirates 3-to-0 in a game that didn’t end until around 1:30 this morning at Wrigley Field where rain delayed the first pitch for more than 3-and-a-half hours.
