HIgh School Volleyball And Tennis Wrap-up


COLDWATER (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports last night, in volleyball, Coldwater lost three games to nothing atGullLake. The host Blue Devils, the fourth-ranked team in the state in the Class-A coach’s poll, won the first game 25-13 and then took the next two 25-18, 25-17. Paige Holicki and Morgan Klein had 17 digs apiece while Holicki had a team-high 7 kills. BreeAnn Spangler added 6 kills and 4 blocks and Janie Marso had 19 assists. Coldwater slips to 2-and-1 in league play and 14-3-and-1 overall.Gull Lake also won the reserve matches. In the j-v action, the Lady Cardinals lost 2-to-0. Hailey Reincke had 6 kills, Carlee Smoker handed out 6 assists and Michaela Gillette had 11 digs. The j-v record is 9-5-and-1. And Coldwater dropped the freshman match 2-games-to-1. Gabby Milnes had 7 kils while Kendall Galloway had 8 digs and 3 assists. The freshman team is now 12-4-and-3. Also in volleyball, Bronson was a winner at Mendon 3-to-1. The

Lady Vikings lost the opening game 20-25 before sweeping the next three sets 25-23, 25-20, 25-23. Kassidy Bystry had 24 digs, Kylei Ratkowski had 14 kills, Brooke O’Neill had 3 blocks and Alexa Ratkowski had 37 assists. Bronson improved its St. Joe Valley Conference record to 3-and-0.

Yesterday in boy’s tennis, Coldwater was a winner at home on Parent’s Night over Harper Creek, beating the visiting Beavers 7-to-1. Winning at first, second and fourth singles for the Cardinals were Derek Sammons, Nathan Waterbury and Alex Mason while also scoring points were Jon Sammons and Nick Waterbury at first doubles, Ben Hicks and Jake Fielding at second doubles, Nate Withington and Chris Chartrand at third doubles and Buddy Bailey and Dylan Linklater at fourth doubles. Coldwater also won the j-v match 8-to-0. Also in tennis, Bronson beat visiting Hillsdale 7-to-1. Winners for the Vikings were Robert O’Rourke, Jonah Houtz, and Patrick Brabon at second, third, and fourth singles, along with Ryan Hagen and Hobie Ramrey at first doubles, Austin Pierson and Damion Smith at second doubles, Sawyer Maddox and Ryan O’Rourke at third doubles, and Philip Mandoka and Kyler Scheenks at fourth doubles.


On tonight’s high school schedule, in boy’s soccer, it’s Coldwater at Sturgis with the j-v match at five o’clock followed by the varsity at around 6:45. Also in soccer,Quincyplays at 5:30 at home against the Lansing Home School Association. The fifth week of the football season kicks off tonight with j-v and freshman action, including Coldwater at Battle Creek Lakeview. Also in j-v games, Quincy hosts Athens, Bronson is at Mendon, and Union City hosts Springport. In girl’s golf, Coldwater is hosting 15 schools today in the Lady Cardinal Invitational at the Golf Club of Coldwater. In volleyball, it’sUnion CityatAddison. And in boy’s tennis, Bronson has a match at home against the Edwardsburg j-v squad. Today on the Coach’s Corner, it’s Union City football coach Chris Davis.
