Justin Verlander tossed six scoreless innings to help the Tigers topple the A’s 6-to-2 last night at Comerica Park. The win leaves Detroit just two games behind the Central Division leading White Sox, who lost 3-to-0 at Kansas City. Verlander improved to 15-and-8 while dipping his E-R-A to 2.74. Miguel Cabrera smacked another home run for the Tigers, his 41st of the season, and it puts him just one homer away from leading the American League in all three Triple Crown categories.
The Tigers, who also got three RBI’s from Omar Infante, will shoot for the 3 game sweep this afternoon, sending Anibal Sanchez to the mound against the A’s. And the Cubs lost 6-to-5 to the Reds in 11-innings last night at Wrigley Field.
