KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Michigan State Spartans head basketball coach Tom Izzo spoke with the media before his appearance as the keynote speaker for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Annual Benefit dinner Monday. In his remarks Izzo commented that this summer "has been the first time that coaches have been allowed to say hello to players in the summer." Izzo continued that the new 2-hour-rule has been one of the greatest things the NCAA has ever done."
In addition to his comments about players and the future of the Spartans, Izzo was critical of social media saying, "I hate it. You know, I think it's going to be the death of all of us. I know there is a plus to it and communucations people are going to be mad at me and corporately there will be people mad at me because it is a good marketing tool in some respects but at the end we have done what we do so well, we've thrown something out at young kids and said here deal with it and we forgot to educate them on how to use it."
Izzo continued saying that NBA teams walk in and the "first thing they say at practice is get your kids off Twitter and Facebook because we're following." Video of Izzo's comments on his interaction with social media and players is above.
