The Tigers missed a golden opportunity Sunday to move into a first place Central Division tie with the White Sox as Detroit was swept by the Twins in a day-night doubleheader at Comerica Park. Minnesota beat the Tigers yesterday afternoon 10-to-4 and then last night, pulled out a 2-to-1 victory in ten innings with Jose Valverde taking the loss. Detroit is one game behind Chicago after the White Sox lost their fifth straight 4-to-1 as the Angels completed a 3-game sweep in Anaheim. The Tigers tonight open their final home series of the season in game one of a 4-game set against the Royals while the White Sox begin a three game series at home against Cleveland.
The Cubs lost 6-to-3 to the Cardinals Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
