LANSING, MI (WTVB) - The Michigan Department of Community Health now reports ten deaths statewide due to West Nile Virus. Overall, 170 cases of the virus have been reported in the state. The latest victims were a 73-year-old Wayne County man and an 86-year-old man from Macomb County. There have been 42 cases of West Nile documented in Wayne County, and 37 in Kent County. There have been no reported cases in Branch County. 8 of the 10 deaths occurred in Southeastern Michigan. West Nile Virus is most commonly transferred to humans from mosquito bites. As the weather gets colder and the mosquitoes die off, the threat will wane.
