EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) - The verdict is back in the case of Saugatuck State Representative Bob Genetski, who fought drunk driving charges. The East Lansing jury took just two hours to return the guilty verdict Tuesday Genetski’s Attorney says they will not appeal. The Republican sat stonefaced as the verdict was delivered. He could get up to 93-days and a fine, but as a first time offender, he isn’t expected to see any jail-time. The verdict will come down just a few weeks before he is due to face reelection.
Prosecutor Stuart Dunning says no man is above the law. Genetski’s attorney says he has advised his client not to speak with the media until after he is sentenced. Stuart Peet of Shelbyville is the Democrat who is running against him.
