KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Dozens from the Kalamazoo area turned out for a hearing on High Speed Rail at the Radisson last evening, as the state is doing the preliminary work to greatly enhance train service thru Michigan.
Janet Foran says by the time they get thru buying up old freight lines, improving the track and rearranging train schedules to give passengers the priority, they will be able to shave the time it takes to get from Detroit to Chicago by two hours. They are already going 110MPH west of Kalamazoo.
She says they now have the money to completely replace all of their cars and travel at up to 110MPH for most of the trip once the upgrades are complete. They held the last of four public hearings on their environmental statement last night. [thu]
