KALAMAZOO (WTVB) - A Tea Party leader in Southwest Michigansays they’re not crazy about Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney and believes the movement is actually more interested in defeating President Barack Obama. Gene Clem of the Southwest Michigan Patriots said on the Public Television program Off the Record he got plenty of phone calls when Romney selected U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan for the ticket. Clem also said that "lots of people are disappointed in Governor Rick Snyder for raising the pension tax on seniors. Yet, he also said that the Governor is doing what he said he would do. He also said the controversy surrounding House Speaker Jase Bolger ofMarshall over the Representative Roy Schmidt party-switching scandal is "very worrisome” because Clem thought Bolger would make a good U.S. Senate candidate down the road. However, given the Schmidt flap, Clem says those hopes may be dimmed.
