SHERWOOD, MI (WTVB) - There’s bad luck and then there’s no luck at all. A Branch County man who was seriously hurt ten days ago when another driver slammed into his car with a pickup truck and then fled the scene, that same injured driver had his house catch on fire yesterday afternoon. It was a five alarm blaze at 728 Dunks Road. The Sherwood Township Fire department was toned out first by Central Dispatch at 2:15 p.m. No injuries were reported to Scott Shelts or anyone else who escaped the two story structure, which was gutted by the flames.
Shelts had been treated and released from Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where he was flown by AirCare helicopter following the traffic accident a week ago Sunday, March 24th, when Sheriff’s Deputies said his vehicle was struck by the pickup on Girard Road. The other driver later turned himself in to police but hasn’t yet been charged in connection with the crash. Assisting Sherwood firefighters yesterday were the Colon, Burlington, Athens, and Union City Fire Departments.
