BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) - It sounded like an explosion very early today on the west side of Branch County, loud and strong enough to shake homes and rattle windows.
9-1-1 received more than two dozen reports of the loud noise and scrambled available State Police and Sheriff’s Department patrol cars to check out the area after the first call was received around 12:20 a.m. Police made several traffic stops during their search, but they came up empty with no smoke or flames visible anywhere. Several of the blast-like sounds were heard from Union City south to near Bronson. Speculation has it that sonic booms were what the noise was all about, possibly from jet craft on training flights out of the W.K. Kellogg Air National Guard Base in Battle Creek.
