In Branch County high school sports, yesterday was another day full of events being cancelled instead of played because of the cold wet weather and damp field conditions and the same storyline is in place for today with postponements basically in place for whatever had been scheduled. A bit of a warming trend begins tomorrow through the middle of next week before it turns cooler again although there’s still a chance of rain every day until next Friday.
There was actually one activity that stayed the course yesterday in spite of the light rain and drizzle as Coldwater opened its boy’s golf season with a tie for 14th place at the Marshall Invitational.
Coldwater shot a team score of 375 at the Marshall Country Club. Winning the tournament was Muskegon Mona Shores with a team score of 300 followed by Battle Creek Lakeview with a 312. Coldwater was led by Nathan Waterbury with an 89, Dreke Lutterbeck shot a 92, Scout Case carded a 96, Nick Waterbury had a 98, and rounding out Coldwater's scoring was Stephen Boston with a 104.
Next Wednesday, it’s the first Jamboree of the year to be hosted by Sturgis at Island Hills.
