The Tigers topped the Mariners 6-to-2 last night in the opener of a three game series at Seattle. Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and four RBI’s in Detroit’s third straight win.
The Tigers received another solid effort out of Doug Fister, who improved to 3-and-0. Fister gave up four hits and struck out five in seven innings against his former team.
Austin Jackson had two hits including a triple to lead off the game and scored two runs along with a stolen base and an RBI. Torii Hunter also had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 10 games and knocked in a run, while Victor Martinez added three hits in the victory. Al Alburquerque and Joaquin Benoit each turned in a perfect inning of relief, with each striking out two batters.
It looks to be a strong pitching matchup tonight in Seattle with Max Scherzer on the mound for the Tigers against Felix Hernandez.
